Criteria for Injunctions too strict
A judge has denied a civil injunction against two gang members in Birmingham, saying that were was not enough evidence against them to enforce an injunction.
The West Midlands Police are very disappointed with the judgement, mainly because research shows that civil injunctions and asbos work in controlling gangs and unsocial behaviour in many cities.
The Judges argue that the ruling was fair and that the council should have applied for asbos rather than injunctions, but both require the same level of proof to be able to be enforced. The courts also say they have specific ways to deal with gangs and that civil injunctions should only be applied to the most severe cases.
This ruling will mean that people will feel unsafe in their communities because Civil Law is limited. However, Councillor Ayoub Khan has said that they will use a number of tools available to them to stop anti-social behaviour and restore the community’s faith in the law.

Cohabiting Couples who Split MUST have Legal Rights
Law reform advisers are urging courts to give cohabiting couples legal rights. In many a case of cohabiting couples breaking up, one cohabite ends up with devastating losses, whilst the other reaps economy advantages both have worked to get. The Law Commission advises that the cohabite that comes off best from the split should compensate the other.

‘Common law’ Husbands and Wives must have Cohabition Agreement
Couples who have lived together for over 3 years assume they are entitled to the same rights as married couples and this is just not the case. There are no rights for couples who cohabitate, especially with no children, unless they have set up agreements themselves.
A good idea would be to set up a cohabitation agreement when you decide to live together and detail what will happen in the event of a split, and who will get what. This will cost approximately £400 and though it is not legally binding, it is useful in dividing stakes in civil court.
Also, if you buy a house together and are joint tenants, have your stake in the property recorded in a Deed of Trust. Most couples are wary of such drastic actions, but it is advised to protect yourself from losing everything in an unforeseen break-up.

Gay Clergy face hostility
Unfortunately, equality has not been served with regards to Gay weddings. Why? Because gay priests aren’t entitled to wed due to the fact it goes against the bible.
The rector who performed the ceremony for 2 gay priests is facing pressure to hand in his resignation from the bishop of London. This has repercussions all over the church as the role of gay clergy is yet again up in arms.
It has been said that the clergy need to make a choice between being faithful to the Bible, or expressing and promoting in same sex values. The church insists they can’t do both as it a vast contradiction.

Gay Couples to be Allowed to Wed
Now that same sex couples can legally wed and form a civil partnership there are expected to be over 1000 ceremonies in the upcoming weeks.
The new law states that gays are to have the same rights as non-gays and bring equality to the UK.
They will have to register the ceremony with the council but the legal partnership papers do not have to be signed in front of witnesses.

Children being taken into care unnecessarily
Research has shown that Social Services are misusing the Children Act and taking children into care that don’t actually need to be. Some families merely need help, rather than taking the children away.
It has been emphasised many times that children should only be taken away from their families as a last resort, and that the families should receive support to prevent their children being taken into care. Researches also feel that the welfare of the whole family should be taken into consideration and supported, rather than just the child as this will in turn keep more children from entering into the care system. This was the goal of the Children Act in the first place.
Although the government is urging Social Services to thoroughly look at their cases before removing any child, they are not going to review guidance as to how to act and enforce the Children Act.

New Children’s Act ALLOWS abuse say paediatricians!
The new Children Act 2004 was brought in to better regulate intervention from official bodies such as social services, with the purpose being to make the UK safer for children. This was to be achieved by encouraging all governing bodies to communicate amongst themselves and therefore improve the upbringing of children.
However, many paediatricians are alleging that this is only causing further abuse. They feel that abusive parents are getting far too many chances, as children are only removed from an abusive home as a last resort. By the time the children are removed, the abuse has gone on for a long period of time and these children often become emotionally detached and harder to place in foster homes.
Social services are strongly denying these claims saying the new Children Act is working and as a result the numbers of children going into the care system are decreasing.

Prejudice encouraging Muslims amongst others to change their names
Since 9/11, Muslims especially are finding they are being discriminated against even though most had not even heard of Osama Bin Laden prior to the attacks on America. The problem has become so bad, that many are changing their names by deed poll to be accepted.
One Muslim found that by changing his name by deed poll to something more ‘English’ he received more calls back from employers, where as with his Muslim name he received virtually none.
This is one case of many. A lot of people are wary of Muslims because of September 11th and this is causing problems for the Muslim community. They are being forced to abandon their culture because they are being labelled due to terrorist actions.
Now to try and end discrimination, Britons are being asked to have an open mind and Muslims are being encouraged to adapt to the change in attitude towards them.

Superman, Flash Gordon and other Super Heroes becoming common names in schools!!
A teenager has changed his name to Captain Fantastic Faster Than Superman Spiderman Batman Wolverine Hulk And The Flash Combined by deed poll and it only cost him £10!!
Super Hero names are strangely becoming more common and are causing up roar. Courts around the world are trying to stop parents from naming their children after super heroes as it will cause bullying and ridicule.
One New Zealand couple was banned from naming their child 4real, so chose the name Superman instead!
And with a change of name costing only £10 online, it is encouraging more people to come up with crazy names for themselves, and their children.
