Travel Insurance does not cover alcohol related accidents
Consumers are being warned that even though they have travel insurance, claims can be rejected if the accident or loss was whilst they were under the influence of alcohol.
This includes drunken accidents, the loss of phones, camera’s and personal property whilst under the influence, and also alcohol poisoning and dehydration caused by drinking too much alcohol.
Many consumers do not know that claims are thrown out if they are under the influence of alcohol. Essentialtravel.co.uk are urging people to be sensible whilst abroad where alcohol is involved.

Watch out for vets performing unnecessary procedures to bump up insurance money
Direct Line has discovered that some vets are allegedly claiming for treatments that were deemed unnecessary.
Vets have argued that they have only done procedures that were required and that the high fees were due to “expensive treatment”.
Due to the expensive treatments performed by vets Pet insurance premiums are now increasing and forcing consumers to abandon their policies.
Direct Line has discovered that even though vets are seeing less animals, they were allegedly recommending further more expensive treatments to cover their losses.
The vets association has argued back saying that yes, pet insurance was becoming more expensive but this was because more hi-tech treatments were now available to vets and that the rise in cost is to cover these new techniques.

Don’t cut on pet insurance in the recession
People are urged not to cancel their pet insurance in the recession. If pet insurance is cancelled consumers are forced to have a beloved pet put to sleep because they can no longer afford the vets fees.
Pet insurance provides the security that if your animal was to get into some form of accident, the treatment is covered. If the animal is not insured the owner must fork up the fees themselves or have the animal put to sleep as this is the only option affordable.
Many pets are being abandoned because the owner can no longer afford vets fees. Research done by the R.S.P.C.A. shows that there has been a
“57% increase in animals abandoned in the last 12 months”
Pet insurance policies can start at £5 per month and will keep your animal in the treatment may they require it.

CGNU Life and CULAC policy holders to receive payouts
Aviva are sending out voting packs to policy holders to accept £200 of its surplus funds.
The funds have been building up over many decades in the “with – profits” funds of life insurance policies and insurers have been pressured into dividing up the funds fairly to stop policy holders being able to claim a share in the future.
Obviously, the payout depends on what type of policy consumers have. The value, type and how long they have left will all depend on how much payout they will receive.
Policy holders were told to return their votes by the 21st August. Those who vote ‘yes’ will have their policies looked at and a payout devised. Those who vote ‘no’ will receive nothing.

Work from home?? Insurance, insurance, insurance!
Though working from home sounds like an easy job, it is in fact very complex. The reason is insurance. There are a few insurances anyone self employed must take out.
The consumer must ensure the services they are providing in an event they get sued. The office and the office equipment must also be insured along with the income.
Those these things are usually over-looked and left uninsured, especially in the current economy climate, it must become a necessity. Insurance provides us with a safety net that ensures our family be looked after when things go wrong. The self employed are extremely vulnerable without insurance and run the risk of a substantial loss if the required policies are not in place.

Expat consumers still need to put health as a high priority
The UK is in a recession and the NHS is also feeling the effects caused by the country’s dire situation. Despite NHS improvements, medical insurance is becoming more expensive and is still very much a necessity to many. Though the NHS offers support to the British, expats are denied the support and have to face their health problems alone unless they have health insurance.
Many Insurance companies are over-looking many diseases that need constant support, and are only offering policies to those who have Chronic Disease cover. Many expats are demanding that insurance providers supply cover for chronic and on-going diseases. This is something small UK insurance companies already cover, and have been for many years. And Bupa have now introduced a new plan that will cover chronic diseases like it does for acute diseases. This is because though health insurance is expensive at this time it is still essential to have a policy in place.

‘Ditching’ insurance is a false economy saver
Most people are choosing not to renew their home insurance due to the recession, research shows. Contents cover, buildings insurance and even life insurance are all being one of the first things people are cutting back on to save pennies in the recession.
This is something that will prove costly in the future and should only be done in desperate measures.
Insurance provides us with the security that we are not going to be out of pocket if a disaster were to happen. Without this insurance, many items destroyed, stolen, damaged etc will only be able to be fixed or replaced with a great cost to the consumer. It will not only out price the insurance cover itself, but many people will not be able to fix the items and consequently suffer a great loss.
