“DVLA is a Total Blunder”
Watchdog has discovered that the DVLA has not only blundered numerous consumers licences, but refuse to make it right and are forcing many to have to re-take their tests for mistakes they have not made.
The DVLA have stated that they never make mistakes, but how can this be true with so many consumers pointing out complete blunders that could have been avoided? If they make no mistakes, yet clearly there have been some made, have they got any correct procedures that deal with these mistakes? No, because they put the blame solely on the consumer.
Some consumers are sending their licences to the DVLA to have details updated, only to have their licences returned with incorrect details. instead of admitting a mistake the DVLA chooses to make the consumer re-take their tests.
One lady who required a replacement licence was told that there was no record of her ever passing her test, or having a licence on the system, despite the fact the woman had been driving for 42 years. The DVLA refused to take her original licence as proof and advised she would have to re-take her test. The woman has now not driven for 3 years.
One consumer who had renewed her licence found that it had expired even before it had arrived. She had been driving with the licence for at least 12 months before the mistake was spotted. The issue date being 16th April 2008 and the expiry date being 15th April 2008 meant that she had been on the road illegally through no fault of her own.
The DVLA has not admitted to any of these mistakes, instead costing the consumer hundreds of pounds re-taking tests unnecessarily.
Not only has it been taking away licences, they have been issuing them to people who have not applied!
One consumer who failed her test was surprised a few weeks later when she received a full driving licence. Another consumer received a licence claiming he was from ‘Untied Kingdom’ rather than the United Kingdom.
These mistakes are avoidable and can be made right if they are admitted. But completely blaming consumers for the mistakes made by the company is unacceptable.
