Benefits and Welfare - A Summary

Welfare benefits are payments given by the United Kingdom (UK) government to certain people on low incomes, or to meet specific needs. Here are some examples of Benefits that can be claimed:

Child Benefit is a tax-free payment that you can claim for your child. The payment can be claimed by anyone who qualifies, whatever their income or savings.

Disability Living Allowance - sometimes referred to as DLA - is a tax-free benefit for children and adults who need help personal care or have walking difficulties because they are physically or mentally disabled.

Unemployment benefits are generally given only to those registering as unemployed, and often on conditions ensuring that they seek work and do not currently have a job.

State Pension is paid to entitled people who claim it having reached State Pension age. It is based on National Insurance (NI) contributions and it is made up of different elements.
